What is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science-based approach to approaching behavior and explaining how it is influenced by the environment. Behavior analysts carefully observe what happens before and after a behavior to determine what a person might be trying to communicate or achieve—such as gaining access to food, water, assistance, or a break from a task. ABA recognizes that various behaviors may be a form of communication, especially when someone may not have the words to express their needs.
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) leads a team of technicians to create a structured, supportive learning environment that promotes positive behaviors—like making requests, initiating social interactions, and following directions. Each treatment plan is individualized and continuously updated to reflect the child’s progress, goals, and changing needs.

Why ABA Therapy?
ABA therapy is recommended by the US Surgeon General and the American Psychological Association for individuals with autism that experience challenges in communication, social interaction, or behavior that affects daily life. It provides support when there is difficulty expressing needs, forming relationships, or managing behaviors that could be unsafe or disruptive. With consistent support, individuals often gain greater independence, confidence, and meaningful progress in their everyday lives.
Benefits of ABA Therapy?
Results of therapy will be different for each individual. Some general patterns may include:

Independent Decision-Making Skills

Increased Engagement in Activities

Clearer communication with others

Independent completion of difficult routines

Tolerance to Wait for What Is Needed

Improved Social Interactions with Peers

What Does an ABA Therapy Session Look Like?
Sessions are typically fun and relaxed to create an effective learning environment. Therapists use toys, games, pictures, flashcards and various materials to create engagement and natural learning opportunities. The child works one-on-one with the therapist for the majority of session, while family members participate at specific times to enhance the child’s learning experience. Progress is carefully tracked through data collection to ensure continual growth and development.
